Safari Overview

Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala –Transfer to UWEC (Zoo) for either behind the scene or day visit.

Arrive at Entebbe International airport. You will be met by our safari driver / guide who will transfer you to your hotel, have lunch and later transfer to Uganda Wildlife Educational Center (zoo). The two-hour educative behind the scene adventure offers special inside look tours and interesting information about how we take care of our residents (animals and birds). You will have a close up and personal encounter with the lions, elephants plus many more wonders you have perhaps never imagined meeting.

Whether you have days or just hours in Entebbe, at the Education Centre you can either hear a lion’s roar, see chimps in a semi natural environment, enjoy a one kilometer forest walk or just some memorable encounters with the animal ambassadors. During your visit you will develop an important understanding of their role in protecting and conserving our planet’s natural resources.

After your morning breakfast at your hotel, you will meet with our guide and you will be start off your day with Mabamba wetland a home to rare and highly endangered bird species like the Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), Papyrus Yellow Warbler and the Blue Swallow (Hirundo atrocaerulea).At this site expect to see the elusive shoebill stork while in dugout canoe.

A canoe voyage through papyrus swamp in the Mabamba will take you to the unscathed attractiveness of the wetland, where you will have the highest chance of seeing Shoebill and other papyrus specialist birds like Saddle-billed Stork, Malachite Kingfisher, African Jacana, and other swamp specialties. After this you will head out for lunch.

After lunch you will head to Entebbe landing site where you will have a boat transfer to Ngamba Island Sanctuary Chimpanzee. The boat ride will take 90 minutes on waters of Lake Victoria. Upon reaching there, you will be warmly welcomed by the staff members and meet your guide who will brief you about few certain things and takes you through how the program will be managed.

Ngamba Island Sanctuary Chimpanzee which is 100 acres (approximately 40 hectares) of rainforest situated a short boat ride (23 km) away from Entebbe, near the Equator in Lake Victoria, Uganda. It is home to 48 orphaned chimps that are now free to roam their island thanks to project leaders Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) and other concerned organizations that raised funds for the project. It offers a unique opportunity for close viewing of chimpanzees in their natural environment.

On this day you will be able to participate in feeding the chimpanzees, visitors are allowed to participate in feeding of these primates; you will spend an hour feeding them as you watch and observe their different personalities and characteristics. Feeding chimpanzees is really so amazing, as time gets already for feeding , and they do not see any off their care takes ,they will start making noise, clapping hands ,they are very time conscious when it comes to feeding them.

Opportunities are available for you to enjoy being close enough to view the behavior of one of our closest animal relatives. But you must have been vaccinated against human diseases such as Hepatitis A and B, Polio, Measles or any other human disease.

You will get back to restaurant for your delicious lunch then get back on the boat to transfer you back to Entebbe from where you will find your driver who is to transfer you back to Entebbe.

Start this day tour as early as possible, departing from Kampala not later than 7.00am. Driving along the Kampala – Jinja, your first stop is after about 20 miles (forty minutes’ drive) at the spectacular Ssezibwa Falls. This is a cultural heritage site of the Buganda Kingdom that is rich with traditional folklore as shall be narrated by the site guide! Other than the cultural aspect, the falls are spectacularly beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery. There are plenty of birds and some wildlife such as monkeys that may be sighted in the nearby forest. You will spend roughly an hour exploring these serene spiritual grounds before returning to the highway.Have lunch along the mighty Nile in Jinja, after which you will continue to the Source of the Nile. Take a boat ride from the shores of the Nile to the exact spot where the Nile waters start to flow. After some photo moments, enjoy the ride further into Lake Victoria, enjoying the beautiful countryside. For the keen birder, there are plenty of water birds including Cormorants, Egrets, Fish Eagles, Pelicans, etc... The ride is roughly an hour long, return and depart for Kampala or Entebbe, driving through Jinja town where you could purchase some souvenirs such as crafts among others.

Our guide will pick you and transfer you to Entebbe Airport for your internal flight to Queen Elizabeth National Park landing at Mweya Airstrip. Upon landing, you will find the safari vehicle and your guide waiting for you after which you will be transferred to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Undertake an early morning game drive to catch up with the early risers and predators returning to their hide outs. The game drive goes for 3 – 4 hours with possible sights of lions, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes, stripped jackals, Kobs, bush bucks and water bucks. Later in the afternoon go for a launch trip on the Kazinga channel at 2pm. Also referred to as the Paradise of Hippos the Kazinga Channel supports one of the great concentrations of Hippos in the world. They have gradually rejuvenated following the great Hippo Curl that took place in the 1950s to reduce the Hippo populations that had caused over grazing in the park. The channel also offers sights of the Nile Crocodiles along with water birds. Retreat from the 2 hour activity and embark on the drive in the channel track to explore more game as you connect to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight

After your morning breakfast you depart from Queen Elizabeth National Park to fort portal as you will pass through the crater Valley with beautiful lakes and rich grasslands which are set deep. This is truly the most magnificent scenery. En route to fort portal town for lunch after which you will continue your journey to Amabere g’ Nnyinamwiru caves which are ancient breast-like features with milky substance dripping from them. They are natural features of stalagmites and stalactites with calcium carbonate that have got a lot of both cultural and geographical attachment depending on which angle one wants to view them from. The Semuliki hot springs are a major attraction to various visitors to the park. The Bamba people use them for rituals use them as they communicate to the gods for blessings and protection. The walk to the male (named Bintente) and female (Nyasimbe) hot springs take you through the forest where you watch red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheekedmangabey, and black-and-white colobus monkeys jumping from tree branches in search of food. The ‘female’ hot springs have a boiling fountain at over 1000C. Often you have an opportunity to cook plantains and eggs in the boiling waters.

Return to the lodge for lunch and have some time to relax by the pool and enjoy the tranquility of the Lodge. Late afternoon you will go for a game drive where you expect to see elephants, buffalo, leopard, lions, antelopes, big cats among other. Hippos and crocodiles can be seen along Semliki River.

Early breakfast, check out and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park by road as you enjoy the scenic view and beauty. This is a full day drive. Check in your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing prior to your Gorilla trekking adventure. This is the most exciting lifetime experience of all time. The gorillas are gentle animals and it is an unforgettable experience to photograph them as they interact. It is a wonderful experience to stare in to the eyes of these gentle giants; watch them as they play and go about their daily activities. It is indeed a “once in a lifetime” experience that you must never miss. Each encounter is different and has its own rewards; you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display. Head out for lunch.

In the afternoon, Here you have a 3-hour cultural walk through the village you learn the ways and culture of the people. The Village Walk is with a local guide who is friendly and knowledgeable about local culture and customs.

You will see how people make local crafts such as baskets with the most intricate designs beer made from Bananas, and a distillery that makes the local Wargi Gin from Bananas, meet a traditional healer and learn of what is gathered in the ancient forest and how it is taken and applied to ailments as you will be amazed. You will see how the growth of local produce is done and harvested, food preparation over charcoal or open fire, visit a school, and meet the as they perform a dance for you just to name a few. It is certainly a cultural learning experience and the cost of the walk supports the local community so a win-win for everyone.
