Our Tarangire and Ngorongoro safari experience takes you to one of the premier parks on the Northern Circuit as well as one of the seven wonders of Africa and a UNESCO world heritage site, The Ngorongoro Crater. Tarangire National Park, so named for the Tarangire river that wends its way through the parks environs, is home to an abundance of wildlife that come to drink from the rivers sating waters. Ngorongoro Crater, formed in the massive explosion of a volcano some two to three million years ago, more precisely a caldera, is 610 meters deep and covers some 304 km sq. This enclosed ecosystem is home to over twenty five thousand large mammals and is the premier game viewing experience in the country if not the world.
Your safari driver guide will meet you at the airport or hotel to undertake the drive, on good tarmac road, the some hundred and twenty kilometers to Tarangire National Park where we undertake your first day of game drives. Tarangire well known for its elephant populations, three families numbering in the region of one thousand each, is so named for the life giving Tarangire River which wends its way through the park and gives sustenance from its cooling waters to a broad variety of game that come here to imbibe. We may hope to see zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and giraffe, to name a few. It is possible to have a glimpse of the Leo panthera, simba, and the mighty lion stalking his prey or leopard watching and relaxing in the trees above.
An ornithological paradise, some four hundred and fifty birds have been here identified. Return to your lodge for a hot lunch and later on continue with your game viewing experience in the park. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
An early start today, rising at 0600 hrs for your breakfast before you descend the bumpy winding track noting your passage through several climactic zones into the Crater and, very quickly, you will be able to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area. Home to ‘the big five’, elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino, you may hope to encounter at least some of these creatures and, with a little bit of luck, you may even catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000, the Crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. After your lunch at the hippo pools and a full afternoon inside the caldera, head to your lodge for further dining, relaxation, and a casting of the mind back over the sights and sounds of the day.
Dinner and overnight at panorama public camp
After your breakfast, hit the road for the drive to Arusha with the option of stopping at some of the arts and crafts shops that dot the roadside where local artisans practice their crafts. You will arrive in the early afternoon for lunch at The Arusha Hotel. We can arrange a short tour of Arusha City or a day room at a hotel before your transfer to the Airport for onward travel in life’s adventure.
